Part 3/30

~All of your flaws, and all of my flaws~

Emily POV

I shifted, trying to find a more comfortable position on the ground. "Get your elbow out of my stomach."

The dwarf on top of me shifted his weight. He tilted his head back to look at me.

"Better?" He asked. It was the dwarf who had been the first in the clearing. The one who had thought I was a he.

"A little." I said. "But now your head's on my boobs." His eyes widened and he lifted his head. As he did, I felt the knife I had taken from Fili dig into my side. I shifted again, and his head fell back onto my chest.

"What are you doing?" He asked.

"Trying to get the knife out of my pants." I replied.

"You have a knife?"

"Yes." I said. "I took it from Fili-- the blond one. Could you try to slide your arm up my side? It's caught in the waistband of my pants."

"Fili gave you a knife?" He asked, shifting awkwardly in the heavy burlap sack. His elbow dug into my thigh.

"Wrong spot." I groaned. "That really hurts."

"This isn't easy you know." He snapped. I kicked him. "Ow!" He shifted again. "When did Fili give you a knife?"

"Oh for the love of god." I sighed. "I took it when the trolls told everyone to drop their weapons or they'd rip the burglarhobbit's arms off. Wow, that's not something I ever thought I'd say."

"It's just hobbit." He said. "And his name is Bilbo."

"What should we do with the other ones?" We both turned our attention to the trolls. They had all the dwarves that weren't piled up with us tied to a long stick, which was turning slowly over a fire.

"I say we skin 'em, and put 'em in a stew." The cook said.

"I wanna eat 'em raw!" The other one, Tom, said.

"I just wanna eat SOMETHING  before the sun comes up!" Moaned the stupid one.

"Shut up!" The other two snapped.

"Hurry up!" I hissed. He moved again, and this time his elbow dug into my bladder.

"Son of a bitch!" I cried. "What the hell?!"

"I'm sorry!" He shouted. "It's difficult. I can't see what I'm doing, and you're all bony, and--"

"Now wait just a minute." We both froze, slowly looking up. Bilbo was trying to reason with the trolls. "You can't eat them like that. They'll taste terrible! Have you seen them? No sense of hygiene. The secret to eating dwarf is..." He paused, trying to come up with the secret to eating dwarf.

"What is it?!" The cook snapped. "What's the secret?"

"I'm telling you-- I'm telling you the secret!" Bilbo said. "The secret to eating dwarf, is..." His eyes lit up. "You need to skin them first."

"What?!" The dwarf on top of me shouted. "You traitor!" Similar shouts came from all the other dwarfs.

"Well I've eaten loads of dwarves with their skin on. They taste just fine." Said Tom.

"Let's have a snack then!" Screeched the stupid one. "While we wait for the other ones to cook!" He picked up the fat dwarf, bringing him to his mouth.

"No not that one!" Bilbo cried. "He's got..."

"Parasites!" I shouted. It was the first thing that popped into my head.

"Yes, parasites!" Bilbo agreed. "In fact, this whole lot's infested with them."

"We don't have parasites!" The dwarf on top of me yelled. "You have parasites!" I kicked him again. He froze, putting the pieces together, then started shouting again. "Mine are the biggest parasites! I've got HUGE parasites." I rolled my eyes.

The others started shouting too.

"I'm infested with parasites!"

"I've got parasites as big as my arm!"

The dumb one screeched, dropping the fat dwarf back onto the pile. I groaned as he landed on top of us, causing someone's knee to dig into my spine.

"I see what you're trying to do." The cook said. "You're trying to stall. Well--"

The dawn will take you all, and be stone to you!" A voice boomed from the rock where I had been watching the trolls earlier. There was a loud CRACK and the rock broke in half. Sunlight poured into the clearing, and with screams and moans the trolls turned to stone. A man with a long white beard and pointy grey hat walked over. Even I knew who that was. Dumbledore.

Just kidding.

"Woah, that's not something you see every day." I said.

I was finally able to get a good grip on the knife in my pants.  With a quick tug, the entire sack split open with a loud ripping noise. I wiggled out from underneath the dwarf before cutting him free.

"Thank you." He said, smiling. "I'm--"

I slapped him. Hard.

"What the--?!" He stumbled back, hand on his cheek.

"I'm a girl you moron!" I snapped. Someone burst out laughing behind me.

"Well done Kili." I looked over to see the blonde dwarf, Fili, wiggling out of the sack. He was trying to hold back his laughter. "Why don't you just say she looks like a goblin and make sure she's completely offended?"

"Shut it." The one I had hit, Kili, snapped. "It was dark, and I was a little busy trying to save your life to notice that you were a bloody girl! And it's not like it's very easy to tell!"

I slapped him again. "Oh my god! Are you serious? You were lying on my chest!"

Fili burst out laughing again, and Kili shoved him.

"Enough!" The dwarf in the blue cloak yelled. They stopped immediately, looking down sheepishly.

"We're sorry Thorin." Fili muttered.

"Yes, sorry." Kili grumbled.

I looked at the man in the blue cloak. Then I looked at Fili. Then Kili. "You guys are totally related." I blurted it out without really thinking.

Thorin gave me a look. Yup, totally related. He turned back to talk to the wizard, and I noticed Fili and Kili both staring at me. "What?"

"What are you wearing?" Fili asked.

I looked down. "Um, jeans and a tank top, why?" Then I looked at them. Lots of leather and fur. Oh.

"Aren't you cold?" Kili asked.

"A little." I gave him a suspicious look. "Why?"

"Here." The dwarf in the hat handed me a bundle of stuff. "Put these on. They're Kili's, probably the only stuff big enough to fit you."

I hot Kili a glare. "And I am not bony!"

I walked into the woods before pulling off my tank top and putting on the thick blue wool shirt. It hung loose, but I tied the strings at the top a little tighter, and it was alright. There was a belt, which I put on just under my chest. That made the shirt fit a little better. I stripped off my jeans and pulled on the loose pants. I almost moaned they were so warm. Thick leather boots with fur on the inside went on my feet. There were strings that I tied around the boots to make them fit better.

The last thing I put on was a long leather coat with a hood. It looked like Kili's and hung to my knees.

I adjusted everything as best as I could before rejoining the group. As I approached, parts of their conversation drifted to me. I stayed in the shadows, watching some of the dwarves talk.

"What do we do with her?" Someone I didn't recognize asked. He was huge, with tattoos circling his arms and the top of his head.

"Give her supplies and send her on her way." Thorin replied.

"But she's not from here." I recognized the man in the hat's voice. "And she's just a girl. How would you feel if someone left Kili wandering these woods alone?"

Thorin sighed. "You want to take her to the mountain Bofur?"

The man in the hat nodded. He must be Bofur. "I say we give her the option. We can drop her off at Dale once we reach the mountain."

Thorin sighed, running a hand through his hair. "We already have our burglar to worry about. Now you want me to worry about a human girl too?"

An old man with a white beard spoke up. "We can't let her wander the forest alone. And she was pretty handy with those knives earlier. Bilbo said that the trolls would have killed him if it hadn't been for her."

"And they would have killed us." The tattooed dwarf added.

Thorin sighed again. "Very well, she can come along for now, but if she becomes a liability, or puts any of us at risk, she goes."

The others nodded in agreement, and the discussion was over.

So, I was to travel in the company of dwarves. I had a very basic knowledge of Middle Earth. As in, my teacher read us the Hobbit in grade 8, but I hadn't listened. Still, it was supposed to be a children's novel, so how bad could it be?

"So you're to be travelling with us?" I jumped. And hit my head on a tree branch ten feet in the air. Oh shit. I grabbed onto the branch before I fell back down. Right, I wished I could fly.

I looked down. Fili and Kili were staring up at me. "Are you a wizard?" Kili asked, giving me a look of awe.

"Um, sure." I said. "Would you mind--"

I didn't have time to finish my question. My hands slipped, and I shrieked as I fell. Kili grunted as I slammed into him, and we both tumbled to the ground. Fili helped pull the two of us to our feet.

"Not a very great wizard." He said. I slapped his arm, but not hard.

"I'm still learning how to do that." I admitted.

"We'll help." Kili said. "Since you're to be coming with us to retake Erebor."

I raised an eyebrow. "You want to help?" The only person that ever wanted to help me was Lily.

Fili nodded. "Thorin never let's us do anything serious anyway. It would be interesting to show him how we helped you."

I sighed. "Fine, but nobody else can know. Okay? I don't want to be a liability." Or get left to wander Middle Earth by myself.

They both nodded. "It will be our little secret." Kili said.

"Besides, I saw you with those knives. I doubt you're a liability." Fili added.

"Oh, right!" I pulled his knife out of one of the pockets of my new jacket. "Here. Do you maybe have any extras I could borrow?"

He took it with a smile. "We're going to find the troll's cave, maybe they have some weapons for you."

"Ya maybe." I thought about it. I wouldn't mind owning some cool stuff while I was here. I nodded. "I'm Emily."

"Fili and Kili," they said together, bowing. "At your service."

I smiled. This was going to be awesome.

Or so I thought.
