Part 4

~Ones we've inherited, ones that we've learned~

Emily POV

"How did you manage to get caught by trolls anyway?" Kili asked.

"How'd you manage to lose four ponies?" I shot back.

They both blinked in surprise. I smirked at them, following them into the troll cave. On the walk over they had introduced me to all the dwarves.

The old dwarf with the white beard was Balin, and the big one covered in tattoos was Dwalin. Oin had a cone that helped him hear, and his beard was grey, and Gloin was the one with the big red beard. Bifur had part of a big rusty axe sticking out of his forehead. He could only speak the old dwarf language. I didn't understand anything he said.

Bofur was the one in the hat, that had given me the knives during the fight with the trolls. Bombur was the fat one. Dori had a grey beard and hair that was all braided up around his head. Nori had hair that stood up in three points, making him look kind of like a starfish (don't tell him I said that). Ori was the youngest.

And then there was Thorin Oakenshield. He was the King Under the Mountain, and Fili and Kili's uncle. Which made Fili and Kili princes. Which was weird. I tried not to think about it.

Thorin liked to act like he was the most majestic being ever to walk Middle Earth. He didn't really like me, or Bilbo, who as it turned out was not a big fan of the quest they were all on. The wizard's name was Gandalf.

We walked into the troll cave, Thorin warning everyone to be careful. There were swords and weapons, and gold. Some of the dwarves buried a small chest of gold, so that they could come back for it later.

I walked through the dark cave, moving past Thorin and Gandalf. At the very back there was a large chest.

"Fili! Kili! Come here!" I yelled, pushing all the junk piled on top of the chest off.

Fili's eyes glowed as he looked at all the weapons inside.

"Wow." Kili stared. "That chest is way bigger then yours."

I gave him a look. "What?"

He looked at me, blushing as he realized what that had sounded like. "I meant Fili."

I raised as eyebrow. "I meant that he has a weapons chest! And this one is bigger!" Kili cried, getting flustered. He groaned, throwing up his hands. "I'll just wait outside." I snickered as he left.

Fili stared at all the weapons, pulling out a wooden box and handing it to me. I lifted the lid, feeling my mouth drop open at the sight of the daggers. There were seven, and they each had a sheath. Two of them were made to go in your shoe, two at your waist, two at your wrists, and one that was supposed to go against your stomach or thigh.

I turned to see Fili slipping all sorts of dangerous things into the many pockets of his coat. I honestly had no idea where he kept them all.

"Can we take them?" I asked. I really wanted them.

"Nobody else is going to use them." He said, grabbing a quiver of arrows. "Let's go find Kili."

We walked back out of the cave to find Kili leaning against a tree. His eyes lit up as Fili handed him the quiver.

"Fee," He sighed, taking one out and studying it. "These are amazing!"

He looked up at me. "Did you find anything?"

I pulled out my new toys. Both brothers took one out to take a look.

"I don't think these are dwarf-made." Kili said.

"Or made by men." Fili replied. "No, I think they might be elvish.Let's ask Gandalf."

We walked over to the wizard, who gave my knives a once over. "If I am correct," he said, studying one thoughtfully, "these are very rare elvish daggers. They are used in war, and have powerful magic."

My eyes widened. "Bad magic?"

"No." The old man said. "They always return to their sheath after being thrown. They will always return to you." My eyes widened. Cool. "And they since they are elvish blades, they will glow blue when goblins or trolls are nearby." I raised an eyebrow. Coolest knives ever.

I took off my boots and slipped two of the sheaths into them. The very tops of the knives poked out from the top of the boots, and they were easy to reach. I slipped the wrist sheaths on, but had trouble lacing them up. I swore, struggling to get both strings into my hand at the same time, and tie them in a bow.

"Here." Kili took my hand, lacing the sheath up quickly. "Is that too tight?" I shook my head. He slipped the leather sheath onto my other wrist, lacing up that one as well. He tilted his head to the side as he did, and I noticed a red mark on his cheek.

"I'm sorry I hit you." I said.

He smiled, his eyes flicking up to meet mine before dropping back down to my wrist. "I'm sorry I thought you were a man." He tied the sheath off and slipped the knives in.

I ran a hand through my cropped hair, making it stand up on my head. "It was an easy mistake." I admitted. "And you were a little preoccupied with the trolls to really pay attention." I pulled up my shirt, tying the waist sheath like a belt. My eyes darted up to see him staring. I raised an eyebrow.

"That's true." He said, his eyes darting away from my stomach to my face. "You should probably make it up to me."

I raised an eyebrow. "And how would I do that?"

"Well," he paused, smiling thoughtfully. "Since you're a wizard, you could--"

There was a great rustling to our right. Kili had an arrow notched before I could blink, and Fili had two large swords in his hands. I grabbed my final knife, slipping the sheath into the waistband of my pants. I'd find somewhere to put it later. One of my knives came out of its sheath at my wrist, and I prepared to throw.

Suddenly there was a sled pulled by rabbits, and a crazy man with bird poop on his face came crashing into the clearing.

"Gandalf!" The crazy man yelled.

"Radagast!" Gandalf cried with a smile. "Radagast the brown. What brings you here?"

"Oh Gandalf, the Greenwood, it's sick. Dark magic has fallen over it. People have taken to calling it Mirkwood, because nothing ever grows here anymore. Or at least, nothing good."

"Who's that?" I asked in a whisper.

"I think he's another wizard." Fili whispered back.

"Seems a little odd." Kili added.

"Oh Gandalf, the spiders, they're everywhere. They're unnatural. And I found something." Radagast pulled something out of a pocket in his coat. Fili and Kili moved closer. So did I, but by the time we got a look the object it was being stuffed into Gandalf's robe.

"What was--?"

There was a snarl, and lots of yelling. A beast from hell jumped out of the trees, landing on Gloin. Kili put three arrows in its head, and one of my knives embedded itself in the thing's eye socket. It wasn't until Dwalin smashed it in the head with an axe, that the monster stopped moving.

"What the fuck was that?!" I shouted, pulling my knife out of the hell monster's head.

"Wargs!" Fili cried.

"That's a scout." Bofur shouted. "Which means,"

"There's an Orc pack not far behind." Thorin finished.

"What?" My eyes darted between the dwarves and the dead Warg. "What's happening?"

"Run." Kili grabbed my wrist. "Run!"

~They pass from man to man~
Here is part four! the dwarves, and Emily, investigate the troll's cave, and Emily finds some very interesting toys. (Which I made up. They are in no way based on anything Tolkien-y.) Please comment and let mw know what you think, and favourite and watch if you like it!

It is called Flaws because of the song by Bastille. At the beginning and end of each chapter is a line from the song.

Disclaimer! I do not own the Hobbit plot, or characters. Everything belongs to Tolkien and Jackson, and whoever else has the rights to them (just not me :(). I also do not own the cover image (once again, very sad). I do own Emily and Lily and the parts of the plot that I made up. Those are mine, and you cannot use them without my permission.

Enjoy!
